1999 Reunion Notes
Thursday August 19 I (Grant) got on the plane in Dallas to go to Salt Lake City for the reunion. We waited for
the weather on the plane for 1 1/2 hours before take off. I got to SLC with no difficulties and had a good time
visiting with Dick and Marleen. After a good nights sleep, we are right now on our way to Idaho. I'm excited
to see everyone again. I guess it has been since the wedding that I saw everyone. That is still the only drawback of being in
Texas is that I don't get to see the family very often.
Trudy and I gave talks in a singles conference a couple Saturdays ago and I was reminded about when I was laid off from Hughes and wanted to go to Arizona for work. I was disappointed that the Lord told me to stay in Texas but it has worked out. Meeting Trudy has been the best thing to happen to me. Still, I do love my family and being with them so I'll have a good time this weekend.
Trudy sent me a note last night that she and the kids had missed the John Bytheway talk because of a power outage at the stake center. That was very disappointing even for me as he gives a good talks and the kids like to listen to him as well. We'll have to see if we can find a copy of it somewhere.
Today is golf day and I'm looking forward to that. Dick will have to give me some pointers and we'll have to see if I can do this at all.
This part is not part of the reunion but I want to make a few notes about what is happening at our house. We are in the process of buying a new home and moving to Grapevine. Our house in Euless has been on the market for three weeks now and we got an offer last Tuesday night, August 17, 1999. They are a good couple, Tracy and Brian Keuns and we are excited about them moving into our home and it looks like we'll get all the things together for a move near the end of September. The house we are moving into is owned by Terra and Iggy DeCardenas. They put their house up the day after we did and we made and offer on it about August 5th.
When we put our house up for sale we thought it would go long before we could find a suitable replacement. As it turned out, the first Saturday we had an open house, no one came. It was quite disappointing but we still had high hopes. Then a lot of people have come to look at the house but only one couple has come back for a second visit. We were getting pretty discouraged because we thought we had a house that everyone wanted in a school district that everyone wanted to be in. I still contend that the Lord has had a hand in this move and we are doing the right thing for the right reasons. Brittany has announced in Brittany fashion that we are taking her to the Euless ward youth night every week. While it is wonderful that she likes youth night so much, she will be glad to be in the Colleyville ward once she gets adjusted.

Family meeting 8/21/99
Barbara is in charge. Tony is the reminder for the family letter and he didn't get it done last time. Scott suggested that we use the internet for group copy of all the letters.
Grant needs to update the family address list. We are planning on a family web site. Ideas are to include family reunion shots, family letter, genealogy, family address list.
Leslie asked who has mom for Christmas? Suggested that the reunion person will make the selection for the gift. Tony will do it on Mom's year. Mom's yard needs fertilization, weed control, and regular maintenance. A request for the close kids take a weekend of a month and come up for yard maintenance. Another suggestion is to pay someone to do it.
Dick discussed the cruise. What is the consensus? Alaska is too pricy. Going to Mexico is the most inexpensive cruise. People want to do a cruise. When to go and when to get commitments were discussed. June or July are probably the least expensive months to go. Dick will get to work on the deals. June is a good month for most people - the middle to end of the month. Potential commitment of 30-35 people. All this time Scott plays with his GPS pod!
Shelley displays Julia's geology lab manual. Julia was co-author of the manual. Shelley passed her Electro physiology technician exam.
Leslie reported that Dennis and Stacy moved out in February. The grand kids still like being at grandmas house. Brook is wonderful and funny. Travis' kids don't get home much because of distance. Larry had cataract surgery and has great vision. Les has 20 kids in next years class. Larry has a barn with all kinds of stuff. Les hauled hay twice this summer. She had her grand kids with her and they loved it. They have two cows (Buzz and Woody) in the freezer.
Donna has the three most wonderful kids and daughter-in-law that come to the reunion. She is still the meanest. It appears to stem from a bus incident where she beat up some other kids.
Trudy's letter was read to the delight of all.
Scott's mother in law died, his son DIDN'T get married, and his daughter will be getting married soon. Scott is mostly flying and doing some programming for his company.
Chris is starting her last year at school and Monica will be here at the reunion.
Shelley will have been married for 25 years on December 8. There are no grand kids on the way.
Tony reports he has the most stress free life.
Donna says the kids are all the same and Eric will be moving out into his new house in 2 - 3 weeks.
Barbara, Ken is still with NextLink but starting a decorative curbing business. Chris is helping him. Megan has one year left in school and is planning a architect career and making plans to get there. Sara, is a bum since March. She was laid off when Ore-Ida moved to Pittsburgh. David is starting college this year. Ithala is working at transition title.
Dick reports Emily will be a senior this year. Nathanial has 6-7 months left on his mission. Ben is at U of U, Rachel has two boys, Rod and Becky have two boys, Chris moved to Minnesota for a 16 month job. Dick has been in his house 25 years this summer.
Mom is coasting along, Betty came out in April and got a bladder infection while there. In addition, the gambling went poorly at Jackpot and Elco. Mom got pneumonia and then Betty left. The carotid artery has been taken care of and she is fine now.
It is now 12:30 and we need to get on to the river.
We had directions to the river but they weren't that good! We endeavored to preserver and made it to the river office despite the directions. We had to wait for our river guides to get their act together so we were a little late. However, we had a great time once we got there. The trip was about 2 hours with plenty of fun. The guides got to know us as we went down the river. Near the end of the trip, two of the guides threw Christine in the river. She was tossed in for being a wimp and screaming all the time. It was a lot of fun.
We came home to Barb and Ken's house and they made taco salad for everyone. Very good. After everyone had recuperated from the river and got fed up, we began the family feud game. Barbara said she tabulated all the answers but we wondered if that was the case based on our recollected answers and her tabulated answers. In any case, the Rudy team wacked the Sherry team and a good time was had by all.
After the game, those who were leaving left and we wondered what to do.
Ya'll come back again next year. (As they say in Texas).
